Lucky's
Pub & Grille is located at 2690 East Jefferson in Detroit, Mich.
DETROIT
-- A
new 12,000 square foot restaurant has opened in downtown Detroit.
Lucky's Pub & Grille is located at 2690 East Jefferson, just
a few blocks from the Renaissance Center. There are approximately
70 big screen TVs inside the restaurant. Outdoor seating is being
added just in time for next spring. There will be a shuttle to take
customers to sports games and major concerts in the downtown area.
The restaurant holds about 500 patrons and also features free wireless
internet access.
Lucky's
Pub & Grille has free secured parking and offers a carry-out
menu. This is a prototype location. If the menu and layout goes
well, it could be used for five to seven other Lucky's Pub &
Grille restaurants, which are slated to open across metro Detroit
at a later date. The downtown location was formerly a Hollywood
Video location.
Andre
Robinson is the executive chef and general manager of Lucky's Pub
& Grille in downtown Detroit.
"This
location has been open since October 23," Robinson said. "We're
about our fourth week open right now. The response has been great.
We've had a great PR campaign. It's helped us out a lot. A lot of
neighborhood folks coming down. We fill the void in this area. With
the wintertime coming and some of the specials that we have and
the community events that we'll have will increase business. We've
been pretty good."
One
of the most popular dishes at the restaurant is the waffles and
wings. A lunch portion is available for $6.99 and a dinner portion
is available for $12.99. I also recommend the shimp bayou pasta
and the seafood nuggets.
"We
want to get people in and out in 30 minutes," the executive
chef and general manager said. "Around the holidays, we'll
add more turkey, dressing, mac and cheese, more of the soul food
holiday items. We have a few programs where we put into play where
you get a Lucky's card and you get a discount for your non-profit
organization. We're going to unveil that around Christmas time for
sure."
The
downtown Lucky's restaurant is also affiliated with the Lucky's
Restaurant on Grand River in Detroit.
"What
we've done is we kept our prices low," Robinson said. "When
people come, they can not only enjoy a great atmosphere, they can
get a great drink and great food at a reasonable rate. Part of the
problem with a lot of these restaurants and bars in the area is
that they jack up their prices. People can't afford that. When you
go, you can afford to get a drink and maybe an appetizer. Here,
$20-$30 bucks, you're in with a full appetizer, entree and a drink
and you still get to go home with some money."
Lucky's
Pub & Grille is going to have a DJ on weekends with an area
for dancing.
"During
the week at happy hour which is around 7 to 10 p.m., we have a live
band," the executive chef and general manager
said. "They come and they play jazz and top 40 music and a
little old school. That adds a different flavor. It changes the
mood. When people get off work, having live music and instruments
playing as supposed to a DJ, it sets the tone for the evening. Usually,
on certain nights we will have a DJ in and a little dancing."
