DEARBORN, Mich. -- The Maker Faire-Detroit-2012, a celebration of engineering creativity and imagination, returns to the grounds of The Henry Ford. Both inside and out, the display area will be filled to capacity on the weekend of July 28-29, with battling robots, contraptions and every new fangled contrivance imaginable.

More than 20,000 in attendance are expected each day for this event featuring over 300 inventors, and tinkers displaying their wares, fares, and new-fangled ideas.

Think of a giant convention and celebration of ‘nerds’ and throw in some plain old fun. That is sort of a description of what one will see. The ultimate science fair, it is a spectacle of the handmade, homemade, and overly insane innovations. It is a ‘Lollapalooza’ for freaks, geeks, and all sorts of gifted geniuses.

“We’re excited to bring this festival back to The Henry Ford and Dearborn to help ignite creativity and innovation in those who love to tinker,” said Patricia Mooradian, president of The Henry Ford.

She added, “The success of the 2010 and 2011 Maker Faire Detroit events has proven the possibility of what ordinary individuals can do, right here in a region brimming with doers and thinkers."

Besides entertainment, the showcase inspires technological thought and transfers that old fashioned ‘Do-It-Yourself’ mindset that Detroit has been famous for. It is a weekend for inspiration.

Maker Faire Detroit will showcase everything from robots, flame shooters, animatronics, solar-powered mechanical sculptures and hands on activities. Back by popular demand are some special favorites including, the Life-Size Mousetrap, Cirque Amongus, i3Detroit Hackerspace and Handmade Detroit.
