2005 Detroit Auto Show: New Car Reviews What
is a Concept Car?
The GM Sequel Hydrogen Car Concept
You may be asking yourself, what is a concept car? A concept car is an idea for the future. Designers work on paper and on computers to predict what an automobile will look like years into the future. They usually look really different from cars in the present. Concept cars give an opportunity for change. People usually have a opinion on them, rather positive or negative. Automakers come up with these new ideas to see how the public will react. They will have surveys to get their information. If the majority of people like the concept, it will likely go into production. Several concept cars at the auto show will one day be produced and you may not even know it. If the majority doesn't like it, chances are it will be scrapped and never built in a factory. There are several different types of concepts. First, you have the normal gasoline powered vechiles. Secondly, you can have a hybrid which combines gasoline with a battery. The final type of hybrid is a hydrogen or alternative fuel source. Now that you know what a concept car is, let's describe a production model. Production models are examples of the new cars that you will soon see in the showroom. Right now it is the year 2005 so the production models that you see in the auto show are for the year 2006 or 2007. They could be tweaked a little or hardly even changed at all. Production models are vehicles that will be built in a factory. They are cars that you will one day have the opportunity to own. One year you could see a concept and the next year it could be a production model with positive feedback.
