EXCLUSIVE: Listen to our LIVE Interview with Dan Bodene, Body-on-Frame specialist for Chrysler [MP3]

DETROIT -- The 2009 Dodge Ram was unveiled at the NAIAS during the first day of press days alongside a herd of 120 cattle from Oklahoma on Detroit's Washington Boulevard just outside the front door of Cobo Center. The truck comes with a long list of new features with more horsepower and higher fuel efficiency.

The new truck has many features that others in the segment don't offer. Two storage bins are built into the sides of pickup's bed area and are collectively known as the Ram Box. Additional features include dual-zone climate control, heated and cooled front seats, heated rear seats and steering wheel, memory seats with power lumbar, ventilated front seats and a 10-speaker surround sound audio system. The Ram comes with a HEMI engine on the high-end model.

"This is an all-new truck. It's all-new design. New features. All kinds of new storage," said Dan Bodene, body-on-frame specialist for Chrysler. "We significantly upgraded the interior. One of the other new features for the '09 is the coil spring rear suspension, which is a first in the pickup segment."

Three engine choices are available on the new Ram. Options include a 3.7-liter V6 engine, a 4.7-liter V8 engine and a 5.7-liter HEMI V8 engine. The HEMI engine produces 35 more horsepower than the previous model with a total horsepower of 380. Its fuel efficiency has also been increased on the 2009 model year Ram.

"The 2009 Dodge Ram. Boldly styled. Tough as nails," said Chrysler CEO Bob Nardelli in a speech at the Automotive News World Congress. "First heated seats. New cargo management style -- the Ram Box."

The new pickup will be built in two locations -- in the Dodge truck complex in Warren, Mich., and also at the St. Louis North plant.

"Depending on how you option the vehicle, you can get everything from a AM/FM radio with CD player to Sirius backseat satellite TV," Bodene said. "There's DVD available. MyGIG entertainment system is available. You can have almost anything you want in it.

"We've got our signature Ram design. Compared to previous trucks, we think it's a little more aggressive this time around. A lot of features built into the design have helped the aerodynamics. We've got best in class aerodynamics on this truck. It's a .419 coefficient of drag. Our previous truck was .463 in comparison."

The 2009 Dodge Ram is expected to hit showrooms this fall. No pricing has been announced yet. EPA fuel estimates have not been reported at this time.
