EXCLUSIVE: Listen to our LIVE Interview with Mark Gruber, Body-on-Frame specialist for Ford [MP3]

DETROIT -- Ford is putting its best foot forward with the unveiling of the 2009 F-150 pickup truck by adding lots of new features and technologies. The twelfth generation of the popular truck was shown off for the first time at the North American International Auto Show.

Country star Toby Keith was flown in for the reveal of the new F-150 during the first day of press week at the NAIAS. Keith has been a spokesman for the company as he has aired many commercials promoting the F-150 over the last few years.

"This is the all-new 2009 model F-150 and it's new from the exterior with all-new styling and new on the interior," said Mark Gruber, Body-on-Frame specialist for Ford Motor Co. "A lot of new features inside. A ton of safety innovations and improvements as well on the truck."

The new F-150 has lots of features that other trucks in the segment don't offer. First, the crew cab has been stretched by six inches. There is a tailgate step that pulls right out of the tailgate. There is also a box side step which can be activated with the push of a button.

"Our crew cab in the rear seat -- a completely flat load floor. Rather than having that 'hump' if you will, on the back for the driveline, you have a completely flat load floor so much more usable," Gruber said.

Three different engines are available. The first is a 4.6-liter two-valve V8 engine producing 248-horsepower.. Another option is the 4.6-liter three-valve engine, also used on the Ford Mustang. The top of the line F-150 comes with the 5.4-liter three-valve engine producing 300-horsepower.

EPA fuel ratings have not been announced for the 2009 models yet. "Expect the highway miles per gallon to be roughly 20 miles per gallon," Gruber said.

"It has the new SYNC feature as a standard on many of the series. Also an option, you have the new Travel Notes feature which gives you gas prices, movie times and all those traffic information. You can get optional navigation system, Sony audio system, all kinds of technological features to keep you connected."

The 2009 Ford F-150 will be available for purchase later this fall. Pricing hasn't been announced yet. However, it will be somewhere between $18,000 and $40,000 depending on the model you choose.

I really like the new F-150. If you are a current owner of an older model, I would recommend that you trade it in for the 2009 version. Ford has really added lots of cool features to make their signature truck more modern. This should help Ford keep its position as the best-selling vehicle in the United States.
