GM debuts "Vehicle to Vehicle" technology at 2008 NAIAS PHOTO BY JASON RZUCIDLO / ©AMERICAJR.com This Cadillac STS comes with GM's new "Vehicle to Vehicle" technology.
DETROIT -- I spoke with Don Grimm who holds the position of Senior Researcher for General Motors. The name of the new technology is called V2V, which stands for "Vehicle to Vehicle." This is pretty interesting. It has wireless communication, meaning that it can communicate with other vehicles within a certain location. Approximately five to seven years maybe before production of this vehicle hits the market line, Grimm said. It would approximately cost about $200 for the technology devices including GPS. The dashboard displays will alert the driver if the vehicle is coming in close contact with another automobile. The seats of the automobile will vibrate for the driver if it comes in close contact with another vehicle. This vehicle uses wireless communication meaning its low in cost. When asked if "Vehicle to Vehicle could be used on a hybrid version, Grimm responded: "nobody knows. AmericaJR.com's coverage of the 2008 NAIAS is sponsored by The Omni Detroit Hotel at River Place, The Dow Event Center in Saginaw and by RazorGator.com.
