Chrysler's
2008 Resolution: Grab their customers by their "horns"
by
Garrett Godwin
"Do
you hear that noise?" asks Deborah Wahl Meyer, who wasn't
talking about the air here. She was talking about the noise that
marketing will make in 2008: $1.3 billion will be spent in ads
for the Olympics; $4.5 billion will be spent for this year's presidential
campaign, more than it was four years ago; when as well as if
it does happen, $80 million will be spent on the Academy Awards.

NAIAS
2008: Whats Under Your Hood? by
Sheila Franklin
This
is the second year for some of us at the NAIAS. Not quite the
zoo it was last year, we cannot help but think the hoopla appears
to have decreased in favor of the Presidential race, the loss
of automotive jobs in Michigan, and the audacity of some of our
local leaders to push for more opulence downtown rather than the
continuing homelessness and declining housing situation in our
fair state. [1.24.08]

China
Comes To The Auto Show To Be A Princess, Too
by
Mike Wrathell
It
is hard to blame China for wanting to crack the North American
auto market. Western nations have been marketing in China for
centuries, first with mind-warping drugs and now with automobiles.
China has returned the favor with Wal-Mart do-dads and, later
this year, ZX Auto will be the first of four to six Chinese auto
makers to launch cars, trucks, and SUVs into North America, first
Mexico, then the U.S. and Canada. [1.17.08]
