An Update on Exhibitors coming to the 2009 Detroit Auto Show (NAIAS) PHOTO BY JASON RZUCIDLO / ©AMERICAJR.com Ferrari will skip the NAIAS in January 2009.
DETROIT -- The 2009 North American International Auto Show opens to the worldwide media in less than a month. Detroit's Cobo Center will be filled with some of the hottest cars, trucks, SUVs and crossovers. However, several automakers have announced they will not be displaying their vehicles here in January. Other automakers have sent out press releases to reassure the media that they are coming. Nissan, Mitsubishi, Suzuki, Rolls-Royce, Land Rover, Ferrari, Porsche and Inifiniti have all turned down invitations to display its automobiles at the 2009 NAIAS. However, the metro Detroit Nissan dealers will have a display with current model vehicles -- but no concepts or new production models. "A change in Suzuki’s display location was proposed and location was one of many variables we discussed in coming to this decision," said Jeff Holland, Senior PR Manager for American Suzuki. "In combination with these other factors, we ultimately concluded that NAIAS wasn’t the best opportunity for American Suzuki at the present time." This will be the first Detroit auto show with Chinese exhibitors on the main floor. BYD Auto and Brilliance will display their models at the NAIAS in January. "Subaru of America, Inc. has confirmed that it will participate in the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit this January," the automaker said in a press release. "The company looks to present both the Motor Trend Sport/Utility of the Year, the 2009 Subaru Forester and a new concept vehicle. Subaru is the only full-line manufacturer to post an increase in sales year-to-date." NAIAS Co-Chairman Doug Fox told the Detroit Free Press that four or five new brands have shown interest in displaying at the 2009 NAIAS. AmericaJR.com will be at the Detroit Economic Club tomorrow at Cobo Center for the unveiling of the 2009 North American Car and Truck of the Year (NACTOY) finalists. Although it will be a smaller show, we hope to see you in downtown Detroit. Press week begins on Jan. 11 and the public show opens on Jan. 17.
