Chrysler introduces "FLO TV" live in-vehicle television system at 2010 NAIAS PHOTO BY JASON RZUCIDLO / ©AMERICAJR.com Chrysler is offering a new TV system in its vehicles known as "FLO TV."
DETROIT -- "FLO TV" is a new feature that is available on all Chrysler vehicles. It will offer 20 channels of LIVE television on two screens inside the vehicle. FLO TV also comes with a TV guide and parental controls. The service also allows passengers to watch a DVD on one screen while live television is on the other screen. This new feature was being shown on the Chrysler Town & County minivan at the 2010 North American International Auto Show in Detroit. "It just launched at the end of December," said Jim Sassorossi, Director of Mopar Parts Sales and Marketing. "We're the first and only manufacturer in the U.S. to offer it on virtually all of our products that customers can add value to their current systems by getting live TV in their vehicle. About 20 channels are available." The new system costs $629 to install, which includes the first year of subscription. It will take about an hour to install the system at a Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep/Ram dealership. FLO TV comes with one wireless remote control that can be replaced if it is lost. "There are parental controls that are available," Sassorrosi added. "It can keep it to the Nickelodeon and that. For short trips, a lot of time there is fundling around with DVDs to put it in. By the time you get to your destination, that's done. Here, you just turn it on and you have your TV going." FLO TV also allows passengers to watch LIVE shows on channels such as the Food Network and ESPN. There is a small antenna on the roof of the vehicle that picks up the television signals. It is virtually unnoticeable. The system works best in major metropolitan areas and may not work well in some rural areas. "The program guide shows what channels you can watch just like at home," said Doug Johnson, Mopar Product Planner. "Disney Channel, Nickelodeon, MTV, ESPN, Comedy Channel, we've got a couple of news channels in there, FOX, NBC, things you're used to seeing at home in your living room. We actually have Adult Swim, which is a comedy channel that only broadcasts from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. There's also a music channel that plays pretty regularly." On a Chrysler vehicle that has two screens, the driver can set parental controls for the second screen in the back row of seating for the kids. FLO TV is now available as an added feature on most Chrysler vehicles.
