A look at the Detroit Auto Show (NAIAS) charity preview from last year.
DETROIT -- Everyone knows that the 2011 North American International Auto Show Charity Preview is the hottest ticket in town. It is held on the day before the auto show opens to the public. Auto show organizers cut the ticket price last year from $400 each in 2009 to $250 each in 2010. The discounted price remains in effect for 2011.
Attendance was up by 25 percent at the 2010 auto show charity preview when compared to the year before. Approximately $2 million was raised in that one day alone.
The ticket price will once again be priced at $250 each for 2011. Remember that $240 of that is tax deductible. The black-tie affair is scheduled for Friday, January 14 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Previous charity previews have welcomed A-list stars such as Celine Dion and the Barenaked Ladies.
The charity preview has raised more than $82 million for a wide range of children's charities in metro Detroit. Over $37 million of that was raised in the last seven years.
Charities that will receive proceeds in 2011 include: Boys & Girls Clubs of Southeastern Michigan, Boys Hope Girls Hope Detroit, The Children's Center, The Children's Hospital of Michigan Foundation, Detroit Auto Dealers Association Charitable Foundation Fund, The Detroit Institute for Children The Judson Center, March of Dimes and Think Detroit PAL.
