on the show floor.
DETROIT
-- For the past six years, the North American International
Auto Show (NAIAS) has produced an education day for thousands
of students as part of a greater auto show experience. 2011
NAIAS promises to offer even more for those schools in attendance
by providing students a full menu of potential career options,
ranging from inside to beyond the automotive industry.
NAIAS welcomes students in school groups in grades 9 –
12 and college level to attend NAIAS Education Day: A World
of Opportunities, presented by State Farm Insurance at Cobo
Center in Detroit on Wed., Jan. 19, 2011 beginning at 7:30
a.m.
NAIAS Education Day, along with the help of leading specialists
from a variety of fields, continues to give educators from
around the Midwest an opportunity to enhance their lesson
plans. Students who participate in this unique day gain
insight into the latest technologies, engineering, automotive
design and environmental concerns. They also will be able
to meet with representatives from various colleges to learn
about career paths in their areas of interest.
NAIAS Education Day will offer show floor tours led by industry
specialists in the following areas of interest:
"NAIAS Education Day is
designed for students with a passion for the automotive industry as well
as related fields that ripple far from that core," said Barron Meade,
2011 NAIAS Chairman. "These students will help shape the future of
not only our industry but our region as well. So many professions touch
the world-premiere event that is NAIAS and it takes many varied vocations
to make our event unique. Students get that full gamut from which to choose
and teachers get to put their lesson plans to life."
Thousands of students from a variety of schools throughout southeast Michigan,
surrounding states and across the river in Windsor, Ontario, Canada, are
expected to attend. The activities will get underway promptly at 7:30
a.m. with opening remarks in Cobo Arena.
"Consistently, the overall response from students attending Education
Day has been overwhelmingly positive," said Bill Perkins, 2011 NAIAS
Vice Chairman. "Attendees will not only be able to view remarkable
exhibits and breathtaking production and concept vehicles, but leave from
this event with the tools and connections that will help them shape their
future."
Bus grants are being offered to the first 50 registered buses in the amount
of $100 per bus to help alleviate some of the transportation costs to
participating schools.
Tickets for NAIAS Education Day are $12 (USD and CAN) per student and
include a lunch ticket. One adult chaperone per 10 students is required.
Online registration is available at www.naias.com/ned.htm.
