DETROIT
-- With the first day of the 2012 North American International
Auto Show dedicated to private guests and media, Monday at Cobo
Hall presented a marathon of specially unveiled automotive innovation
amid the wine glasses, company signs and not fully noticeable
steps.
Throughout
the main floor, examples of technological breakthroughs came either
as alternative power sources, digital attachments, or otherwise.
In the Cadillac
section, perched atop a rotating platform, one vehicle model stood
out for its breakthrough in computerized assistance: the 2013
Cadillac XTS4. It’s make and engine capabilities influenced
great impression from Cliff Marriot, Products Presenter and Trainer.
“[It will have] a base engine of 300 to 315 horsepower at
launch, but after launch there might be one of 425 to 450.”
The format of such an engine was a “3.6 liter V6 direct
inject and variable valve timing.”
In terms of
fuel consumption, Marriot specified that the XTS4 could run on
18 miles per gallon (on front wheel drive plus an all-wheel 19)
in a city location and close to 25 on the highway. In terms of
tank fill, the vehicle can run on an estimate of 400 miles to
empty.
In terms of brake capabilities, Marriot mentioned that the frame
featured an “H-link rear suspension and magnetic ride control,”
while the model featured tires marked as “Potenza RE97A5.”
The outer
coating of the vehicle was of a light charcoal gray tone, while
the interior seating and lower padding consisted of a darker charcoal
gray and light beige padding along the door interiors.
The standout
innovation within the car’s operation systems is its inclusion
of what Marriot called “capacity touch.” It would
feature an 8-inch touch screen that would feature hand-chosen
application features and maneuver options, also coming equipped
with voice command among other features. Nestled behind the wheel
is a second albeit 12-inch screen displaying digitally rendered
gauges in their traditional appearance.
This type
of capability presents a hybrid of access earlier and elsewhere
at the Auto Show as infotainment, yet Marriot confirmed
the identity of such a system in Cadillac models as the Cadillac
User Experience (or CUE for short).
Production
of the XTS4 begins in the middle of this March, according to Marriot.
In regards to price, he added that the opening tag should range
somewhere between $40,000 and $60,000.
Compared to
other Cadillac models like the 2012 Escalade, the XTS4 and its
CUE system serve as a model for satisfying future concern on over
indulgence by featuring multi-option vehicle in a slim body.
