DETROIT
-- Christian Buhlmann, a Volkswagen Spokesperson for
North America from Wolfsburg, Germany, says the E-Bugster is a
two seater, all electric vehicle and has the same powertrain as
the VW Golf.
It is powered
by a 114-hp electric motor and a lithium-ion battery and gets
100 miles on a charge in zero emissions driving. You can charge
this car in three ways: 120-volt, 240-volt, and quick charge,
which is an 80-percent charge in 30 minutes. The battery weighs
176 pounds and is stored under the trunk floor and rear bench
seat.
The Bugster
has a flat and wide windshield. You can take off the top roof,
so it is capable of being a roadster. The roof material is made
of fiberglass. It takes four people to line the pins in the holes
for the roof assembly. It has 20-inch chrome wheels with a Porsche
design and it has front wheel drive.
There is no
target price and no decision made on production.
The Bugster
has a C-shaped design of LED daytime running lights on the front
of the car. These lights have become a signature element on the
Volkswagen electric vehicle studies.
The interior
has an energy consumption display that fluctuates with vehicle
acceleration. It also has a driving range indicator and a display
showing the battery's charge state.
