DETROIT -- Judging by the model makeup that graced each model along the Cobo floor displays, the color red was sure to launch the 2013 North American International Auto Show with new breakthroughs concerning old convertible favorites. It wasn’t so much the Corvette Stingray that dominates this style, however.

Arguably more sharp in its coat and frame was the Audi R8. Along with its lust red tone, the R8’s body is balanced by dark grey scale ribbing adjacent to each door, covering the side mirrors, and along the lower siding. This is accompanied by what appear to be dual exhaust grates that bulk outward behind each door.

Door opening capabilities come through lift-up flaps, the same kind of handles that were popular on convertibles during the 1990s. The tires on display featured the following engraving: Pirelli 305/30 ZR19 102Y.

Its operation options solely automatic, the vehicle is run by dual V10 engine power that is mainly trunk-based. According to Audi of America’s website, the model would allow for two differing engine sizes: a 4.2-liter or a 5.2-liter.

The accessories for the 5.2 build include LED lights with daytime power, a Bluetooth® microphone option located right on the seatbelt, Fine Nappa leather cushioning in the seats, and remote transmission provided by Homelink®.

In mileage per gallon among city, highway, and combined differentials, the respective 4.2 and 5.2 engines have averages of 11 in the city/20 on the highway/14 combined and 12/19/14. The 5.2 manages 525 horsepower @ 8,000 RPM, while the 4.2 goes at 430 hp @ 7900 RPM. As for time it takes going from 0-60, the 4.2’s time is at 4.4 seconds while the 5.2 reaches it in 3.7.
