DETROIT -- Honda unveiled their new Urban SUV Concept at the NAIAS on Monday. "We are showcasing the dynamic styling of a capable SUV," said John Mendel, Executive Vice President of Sales for American Honda Motor Co. Young buyers, in particular, are looking for performance and good fuel economy. With a spacious interior and flexible seats, the smart package provides a comfortable cabin for up to five passengers.

"We expect small cars are meeting the needs of our customers," Mendel added. "We can meet demand in our new 200,000 unit space in Mexico. Timing is going to be just perfect. We will launch in Spring of 2014. We don't plan to ride on the wind, we plan to accelerate it."

Takanobu Ito, President and CEO of Honda, says the Honda Fit is functional. More than ever, we show the unique value Honda has to offer. In March 2013, we plan on selling four million vehicles and by March 2017, more than six million vehicles.

The Urban SUV Concept has a center tank layout for a spacious and functional interior. We offer gas, hybrid and diesel engines to meet the needs of everyone in the world. This concept has a sleek body with plenty of curves and LED lights. The vehicle is nine inches shorter than the CR-V compact SUV.

In the U.S., it is expected to be priced below the existing CR-V, which is about $22,700 for the 2013 model. This new concept will fill a place in Honda's lineup between the subcompact Fit and the CR-V. It is fast, fuel efficient and highly functional. The Urban SUV concept is a glimpse of what Honda's future has to offer.

Honda's U.S. vehicle sales rose 24 percent while CR-V sales broke an all-time record and rose 29 percent. There is opportunity for greater sales in the future.

This concept vehicle will be manufactured in Mexico for the North American market which will be the first manufacturing plant built in Mexico for Honda.
