year, Hyundai seems to be making a more significant impact upon
what we expect in the quality and design of our automobiles. This
seems to coincide with a larger and more refined presence at the
North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) with each passing
Genesis Concept: The HCD-14 Genesis Concept is "the
embodiment of Hyundai's design vision," according to their
spokesperson at the concept's NAIAS reveal and press conference.
They describe it as a sleek and dangerous car, "like a cat
with its ears pinned back." It is indeed what Bruce Wayne's
2013 version of the Batmobile (Catmobile?) should be and it would
be great to see this beautiful car go into production with very
few changes to the overall design.
the threatening feline beauty of the HCD-14 Genesis, Hyundai has
a great stable of production cars that can be bought without too
much waiting and at prices that are very competitive with similar
models from other manufacturers.
Sonata: Available also in a hybrid version, the Sonata
has been a mainstay of Hyundai's auto lineup. The recipient of much
praise, the Sonata won the Driver's Choice Award for Best Family
Car in 2012.
Genesis: It's no the HCD-14, but the 2013 Genesis is an
amazing and refined mid-range car that you can buy today. With advanced
safety features, such as a Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS)
and Smart Cruise Control (SCC), the Genesis was named a 2013 IIHS
Top Safety Pick.
Equus: Topping the Hyundai line is the Equus, desiged to
compete head on with the luxury lines of the other automakers. It
has premium wood trim, luxurious leather seats with driver's circulation
massage, heating, cooling and humidity controls, an 8-inch LCD for
the premium navigation, a Driver Information System (DIS), and a
608-watt Lexicon 7.1 Discrete Surround Sound Audio System. Wow!
Hyundai treated certain media representatives to a fabulous party
at a well-known and fantastic Detroit BBQ joint. We were fortunate
to attend, but haven't let the aromas, taste, and camaraderie of
the occasion, or the amazing Bell's Hopslam IPA, bias this article
in any way other than using colors that are vaguely like BBQ sauce
for some of the text headings!
