2015 Chrysler 200C enters luxury market as the automaker's new flagship model
CNET has described the 2015 Chrysler 200 as the "most improved" car at the NAIAS.
DETROIT -- Chrysler took the wraps off its 2015 200C luxury sedan during its press conference at the 2014 North American International Auto Show on Monday, January 13. It will replace the 200 Limited as the automaker's flagship sedan, but the Limited model will still exist. The new 200C was built from the ground up -- nothing was carried over from previous models.
"It has a brand new architecture based on the Alfa Romeo Giulietta platform," said J.T. Delcamp, Chrysler 200 Brand Manager. "We have a number of new features. It's a class-exclusive nine-speed transmission. Also, it's the most advanced all-wheel-drive system in its class with the rear axle disconnect, which saves on fuel economy and helps the customer out when it's needed. We have over 60 safety and security features available so that's best-in-class as well."
In addition, it will be the industry's first mid-size sedan to come with a nine-speed transmission standard, which will achieve as much as 35 mpg. Engine choices include a 2.4-liter, Tigershark four-cylinder engine creating 184 hp and 173 lb.-ft. of torque or a 3.6-liter, Pentastar V6 engine producing 295 hp and 262 lb.-ft. of torque.
"It has 19-inch wheels, standard LED taillights, LED fog lights," he added. "This one is in the granite crystal color, which is new for 2014. On the inside, we've got a linen and black interior, a wood interior with bronze accents, heated and ventilated seats. It's a little bit higher end, really good quality."
Also new on the interior is a center console with pass-through storage space for driver and passengers, covered charging station and sliding cupholders for even more storage space when needed. Safety features include Adaptive Cruise Control-Plus, Full-speed Forward Collision Warning-Plus, LaneSense Lane Departure Warning-Plus and a camera providing a 360-degree view of the road.
"The 200S is our sport model, a little less chrome, everything on the outside is gloss black," the brand manager explained. "It just gives it a more sporty, sinister appearance. They are being made at Sterling Heights assembly plant. We've invested a ton into the plant and it's amazing."
The 200C and the 200S will both arrive in U.S. showrooms during the second quarter of 2014 at a price of $21,700. That's $95 less than the current 200 on sale now.
