2015 Acura TLX GT Race Car headed to the Pirelli World Challenge series
Acura's Mike Accavitti introduces the TLX GT Race Car at the 2014 NAIAS.
DETROIT -- The 2015 Acura TLX GT Race Car turned out to be a cutting image not only with its tone, but also with its core running instruments. Put together by American Honda Motor Co., Inc.’s HPD wing, the GT’s power source is a V6 engine both direct-injected and twin-turbocharged. Also prominent in the vehicle will be an all-wheel drive system that first implemented through Acura’s Super-Handling All Wheel Drive™.
"We're going racing with this 2015 Acura TLX GT race car and we're going to win!" said Mike Accavitti, Senior Vice President of American Honda Motor Co., Inc. "And this spanking new GT car is organically Acura powered by a twin turbo version of the direct injection engine that will be in the production TLX sedan with the racing powerplant developed by the Acura Motorsports Group at HPD."
While the combination of colors does seem garish at first sight, one’s quick to realize this kind of model is most befitting for the drift-crazy youth crowd that Acura was focused on, at least with the GT.
"As some of you know, Acura has a long and successful relationship with Real Time Racing and team owner/driver Peter Cunningham, who is here with us today. Real Time is moving up from GT-S to the GT class in the Pirelli World Challenge series. In fact, they'll have this Acura TLX GT car on the track in just a few weeks well before the new 2015 Acura TLX comes to market around the middle of the year."
Acura also showed off the 2015 TLX Prototype, which replaces the TSX and the TL in the line-up this summer. The TLX prototype features front and rear overhangs, dynamically sculpted fender arches, and purposeful character lines. Other elements include LED headlights, 20-inch wheels with 265/35 size tires, and side mirrors incorporating more LEDs.
