DETROIT — The MAIN Event kicks off the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) on Sunday Jan. 12 at Orchestra Hall/Max M. Fisher Music Center at 6 p.m. This invitation-only event, is in a category of its own, as it recognizes and honors automotive industry executives, showcases student’s automotive-design work, and features “treads and threads” – - a fashion show of automotive-inspired garments by Detroit fashion designers (some garments are made of automotive materials).
The 2014 award recipients are Carlos Ghosn, President and CEO of Nissan, Chairman and CEO of Renault and also Chairman of Renault-Nissan Alliance Board, as the event’s “Global Industry Executive of the Year”; and Ian Callum, Jaguar Design Director as the “Industry Innovator of the Year”. Both award designations were selected by the Executive Committee of The MAIN Event. Additionally, current students at Lawrence Technological University will be awarded the “Next Generation of Design Innovation” by Dassault Systèmes and the “Coach Builder Design” awarded by SRG Global.
The MAIN Event Awards have become a coveted iconic symbol of achievement that many global executives aspire to become a recipient. Each year two executives are honored for their achievements that have made substantive global impact and lead their institutions to set new standards of industry innovation.
“We’re grateful for enthusiastic industry support for our unique event,” said Keith Nagara, executive committee chairman. “Our celebration recognizes not only established industry executive excellence, but also rewards the creative young minds who will inspire our industry’s future direction.”
Industry executives honored during previous events include former General Motors Vice-Chairman Bob Lutz, Peter Horbury, senior vice president of Volvo, Elon Musk, CEO and head of product design of Tesla Motors, and Ford Motor Company’s Design VP Moray Callum.
Winners from Ford’s “Designing for the Future” competition will be announced and awarded scholarships to attend Lawrence Technological University’s Transportation Design Program. This international competition will feature finalists from the US, Russia, and India aspiring to become future designers.
In addition to insightful presentations from OEM and industry leaders, guests will enjoy the MAIN Event’s annual fashion show, in conjunction with Detroit Fashion Week. The designer showcase includes: Vincentta by Deanna Ansara, Ashley Harris, Wooden Hangers, and Our Own by Lauren Aitch. The show also features pieces constructed from automotive materials and components.
Attendees will also have
the opportunity to meet and mingle with global industry executives who
have lead the industry to its current cycle of dynamic growth.
The Motorcity Automotive Industry Night (MAIN) Event serves as a welcome and homecoming to Detroit for all automotive professionals, especially those attending the North America International Auto Show. The invitation-only event’s purpose is to recognize the professional community, feature concepts from students of Lawrence Technological University, and serve as a memorable and celebratory kick-off for the NAIAS Preview Week.
