Michelle Krebs, SAA Board President, welcomed everyone and says membership is at the highest level ever. "This will be another great year for the industry," says Krebs. Joe White, Global Auto Editor, Detroit Bureau Chief, Wall Street Journal, talked about his book he co-wrote with Paul Ingrassia, called The Fall and Rise of the American Automobile Industry. "In the early 1990's, we had to make fundamental changes in order to survive. Right now, we are at a crucial point in the industry. We didn't recognize the problems between the car companies and the United Auto Workers. We did not see the importance of trucks in the industry. Finally, in 1992-93-94, while working on this book, no one expected China would be so big," says White. [1.13.14]

2014 NAIAS: Bringing Muscle Back to Detroit By Mike Wrathell

I have Netflix. I love it. Everyone should get it and rent out Alphaville and Kiss of the Dragon. If you're into politics, like I am (not by choice, but by the realization that art alone cannot save the world when there're hare-brained rulers with virtually all the power), you'll love “House of Cards,” the knockoff American version for Netflix streamers. In it, Kevin Spacey plays Congressman Frank Underwood who sometimes escapes the pressures of insider politics by dining on yummilicious ribs at an off-the-grid restaurant called Freddy's BBQ Joint. That's how it felt for me when I stumbled upon the Equus Automotive exhibit at the 2014 NAIS at Cobo Center in downtown Detroit last Wednesday. [1.18.14]

2015 Subaru WRX STI sports sedan revealed at NAIAS in Detroit By Garrett Godwin

With everything that has happened with the Arctic blaze, catching the flu or pneumonia, the North American International Auto Show not only helps keep our engines literally warm, but make sure Detroit remains the Motor City, not the Winter City. For instance, you have Dodge celebrating almost a century of cars, which includes the 1969 Charger, whose fame peaked thanks to the General Lee from CBS' The Dukes of Hazzard, which premiered on January 26, 1979 with Tom Wopat and John Schneider as cousins Bo and Luke Duke, good 'ol boys who spent seven seasons "fightin' the system like a two modern-day Robin Hood." UAW to increase its dues, unionize at VW's Chattanooga plant by June By Gloria Rzucidlo

UAW President Bob King was one of the keynote speakers at the Automotive News World Congress at the Marriott inside the Renaissance Center in Detroit. He talked about restoring the American Dream. The union's mission has been to secure a decent and just standard of living for workers, to make certain workers share in the company's success and give a voice to the interests of working-class Americans. This is very important to ensure democracy. "Together, we built a great middle class and a great democracy, a shining example to the rest of the world," he added. Unfortunately this has faded. Globalization is not the enemy, technological change is not the enemy," he said. [1.25.14]

2015 Acura TLX GT Race Car headed to the Pirelli World Challenge series By Pete Bublitz

The 2015 Acura TLX GT Race Car turned out to be a cutting image not only with its tone, but also with its core running instruments. Put together by American Honda Motor Co., Inc.’s HPD wing, the GT’s power source is a V6 engine both direct-injected and twin-turbocharged. Also prominent in the vehicle will be an all-wheel drive system that first implemented through Acura’s Super-Handling All Wheel Drive™. While the combination of colors does seem garish at first sight, one’s quick to realize this kind of model is most befitting for the drift-crazy youth crowd that Acura was focused on, at least with the GT.
