DETROIT -- Buick first debuted the Cascada convertible at Eastern Market on Sunday. Then, it came to the North American International Auto Show on Monday.

I spoke with Michele M. Zeiss, Buick Assistant Marketing Manager, and she says this Cascada is designed from the ground up as a convertible. The soft top has thermal and acoustic insulation so this convertible can be used in all weather conditions. "It also retracts in 17 seconds and you can do it while driving 31 mph or less," says Zeiss. Why did Buick do a convertible? Zeiss says "to attract a younger market."

The vehicle has a 1.6-liter, four-cylinder engine producing 200 horsepower. "It's the only engine we offer in the Cascada," says Zeiss. Direct injection and variable valve timing complement the engine's performance with great efficiency. The package includes 20-inch aluminum wheels and heated front seats and a heated steering wheel. There is a windstream in the back of the rear seat to reduce windspeed.

IntelliLink is your seven-inch diagonal touch screen for infotainment such as navigation, radio presets, climate controls, stream pandora and rear vision camera.

The available optional equipment are: lane departure warning, rain sense wipers and forward collision alert system. This mid-size vehicle seats four people. "Pricing has not been announced by my guess is about $30,000-$35,000," says Zeiss.

There is flexible cargo space with the second row that folds flat. Also with the flip of a lever, it automatically slides the front seat forward for easy access to the second row. There are also electric safety belt presenters in which the motorized arm comes forward from behind the front seat into closer reach for easy buckling.

There is no announcement of a hybrid or electric version as of yet, and no mpg numbers. The Cascada is produced in Poland and will be sold in the United States in early spring of 2016.
