Toyota's Holiday Party in Detroit Yields Major Announcement By Mike Wrathell

Donning my brand-new black Levis (made in America, I think), and my new Van Heusen dress shirt (made in Honduras) and tie, I paid the 8 bucks to park by the Westin Book Cadillac (now I realize the valet parking was probably free) and took the elevator to the Crystal Ballroom. A bevy of Toyota/Lexus/Scion executives and the Detroit press corps were on hand for the special event. Mr. Mike Michels, a long-time Toyota executive, was honored for 29 years of distinguished service undercutting American industry with a replica of Akio Toyoda's race car, a Toyota Altezza (the model's name in Japan) that he drove at the prestigious 24 Hours of Nürburgring in Germany. 2016 Ford GT Conquers North American International Auto Show By Mike Wrathell

One of the cool things about going to the auto show on a press pass is the swag. Someone from Hitachi gave me a red toy replica of an Indy-style car with “Hitachi” printed on it. I gave it to a lady on the People Mover on the ride back to Greektown. I had lunch at the Golden Fleece and asked a man at the table next to me if he knew who had to grab the world-famous fleece. He had no idea. Luddites. C'mon, people! It was Jason – with a little help from his friends: the Argonauts! The moussaka was great, by the way.... Anyway, as soon as I walked onto the main floor of the show, I was drawn to the Bentleys.

Elon Musk encourages other automakers to join the electric vehicle revolution By Jason Rzucidlo

Wherever Elon Musk goes, he is treated like a rock star. He was the speaker that caused the 2015 Automotive News World Congress to be sold out. The CEO of Tesla Motors, SpaceX and other companies spoke to a standing room only crowd inside the Detroit Marriott at the Renaissance Center on Tuesday. “I think that all transport with the exception of rockets will go fully electric,” Musk said. “If we can make it go electric sooner, then that would be much better for the world. The potential harm to the climate is much more greater than it was before. We can’t rely on scarcity to drag the price of oil and gas high. We have to gure out how to make electric cars without the economic force and function of high gas prices."
