DETROIT --
Longtime running ‘Noel Night’ has been regarded as one
of the best events that Detroit has to offer. This 39th year on
Saturday December 3, something new is being added on the Wayne State
University campus. A special reception highlighting the WSU Faculty
Art Exhibition will run from 5:00 p.m. till 9:30 p.m. Also as part
of the occasion there will be a Holiday Artists Market.
The artists market is
a new event this year and will bring together the talents of Wayne
State art students, alumni, and community organizations. Presentations
will range from one of a kind art objects to limited production
design goods.
The talented folks from the Lakeland Society of Artists will have
new offerings. Included will be the visuals of Pat Sarotte, the
felt creations of Shelly Lampshire, the multi-genres of Donna Picarski-Calhoun
and the acrylics of noted painter Violet Schooltz. The colors of
poet Pawel Olbrot will be on hand with seasonal renditions also.
WSU Art Gallery spokesperson Thomas Pyrzewski said that all manner
of disciplines will be showcased for the last day of the Faculty
show. Mediums being presented include paintings, drawing, sculpture,
printmaking, ceramics and interior design. Also shown will be metals,
fibers, digital, photography, graphics, fashion, and industrial
styled arts. The faculty presenting are all part of the College
of Fine , Performing and Communication Arts.
Dr. Rayneld Johnson of the WSU Fashion Design and Merchandising
Department said, “This is a great chance to collaborate and
network, especially for patrons. Art is evolving and there is so
much new in fabric art.”
The WSU Art Gallery is located in the Art Department Building ,
just west of Kirby and Cass Avenues. Like all the ‘Noel Night’
events in the midtown cultural center area this presentation and
reception has no charge.
Over 60 institutions,
including the Detroit Institute of Arts, the Detroit Science Center
, the Charles H. Wright Museum of African-American History, the
Detroit Historical Museum , the Detroit Public Library and many
others, will be participating during this holiday ‘open house.’
Two other events that
will really please are the Slavic Soul Party at the Motor City Brewing
Works from 5:00-8:00 p.m. and the fine art showcase presented by
WSU alumnus Dolores S. Slowinski at the Re:View Contemporary Gallery,
444 West Willis.
