Detroit
is proud of it's Red Wings.
If you are a Red Wings
fan, you are in heaven. Hockey is back in Hockeytown and that's
all that matters. Detroit has 10 Stanley Cups under their belts
and they're ready to add to that number this season.
The Red Wings won four
games during the Preseason. In the Regular season, they have played
the St. Louis Blues twice and beat them both times. Their next games
will be on Sunday vs. Calgary and Monday vs. Vancouver.
Detroit has made some
big changes to it's team this year. Mike Babcock is the new head
coach replacing Dave Lewis. The Wings have brought back goalie Chris
Osgood, who led the team to a Stanley Cup a few years back.
There are some new players
added to the team as well. Andy Delmore plays defense and was previously
at Buffalo. Andreas Lilja is new to the team, another defenseman
from the Nashville Predators. Don McLean plays center and is from
Columbus.
Along with the additions,
the Wings have lost some of it's players. Darien Hatcher is now
playing for the Philadelphia Flyers. Longtime Red Wing Darren McCarty
is now on the Calgary Flames team. Mathiew Dandenault now plays
for Montreal. Ray Whitnet was traded to Carolina and goalie Curtis
Joseph is now with Phoenix.
This will be the last
year for Steve Yzerman on the Red Wings. He made the decision to
play for one last season and that's it. He is the longest serving
captain in the National Hockey League.
Detroit is currently
at the top of the point standings in the NHL Central Division. They
have just beat the St. Louis blues in back-to-back wins.
