DEARBORN, Mich. -- After a day of pouring rain, when Rick Springfield took the stage, the rain suddenly stopped. There was magic in the air. Rick commented on how hot it was up on stage and he asked the crowd if anyone out there was "moist". Rick likes to interact with his audience and was prepared to walk down the center aisle into the crowd up the hill but by the time he was a few songs into the show during the tune "Jet by Wings" the anxious fans rushed the stage ... onto plan B.

Rick went into the crowd off of stage right surfing though the crowd hanging onto a guide wire at one point. He wasn’t able to get out into the crowd as much or as far as he usually does. The security there was very professional and Dearborn police were very polite. They had this crowd under control.

Matt the bass player had boxes of White Castle burgers on his mic stand, there was mention of the burgers throughout the night.

The Humane Society brought out a dog that was up for adoption whose name was Sparkles, Rick said that he had a photo of that same breed of dog on his first album cover. The dog really took to Rick, Rick gave the dog a kiss and the dog was all over licking him. Matt gave the dog a Castleburger but it didn’t eat it.

When Rick did his "Don’t Talk To Strangers" song, he chose the female officer Vicky to sing into the mic, he teased her about carrying a gun but being afraid to sing.

Rick told her that guys love it when girls sing. He called her Officer Vicky, at first she wouldn’t sing, but Rick finally got her to. He asked the male officers why they were laughing at him he may be picking on them too. Rick brought two kids from the crowd up on stage to sing. The boys name was Luke and his sisters name was Chloe they were waving their hands in the air like they didn’t care. Rick asked Officer Vicky if she wanted to dance she declined. He told her that the kids weren’t afraid and they weren’t armed. Rick asked the crowd to sing it in Swahili.

Rick made his way out into the crowd during Human Touch. He emerged back on stage with a lei on and picked up his guitar to tease the crowd with a few bars of Jessie’s Girl a cult classic tune. He asked the crowd “Is it time?” and broke into Jessie’s Girl. At this point of the show Rick had already changed his clothing twice due to the sweating. Once he unbuttoned his shirt some and flicked some sweat into the crowd. During the crowd surfing someone gave Rick a lei, he in turn tossed it back out into the crowd some lucky girl caught it.

The encore was done totally shirtless.

The city of Dearborn put on a class act only to be followed by the fireworks which were like no others I have seen, just brilliant and special thanks to BP Oil and DMC for sponsoring this event.
