DEARBORN, Mich. -- If you are 13 years of age or older, male or female, you'll have the unique opportunity to compare your personal fitness level with that of members of the elite Navy SEAL community in Dearborn Saturday, May 10, 2008. The Challenge is free and will take place in the Recreation Center at the Ford Community & Performing Arts Center, 15801 Michigan Avenue.

The Navy SEAL Fitness Challenge, which consists of a 500-yard swim, push-ups, sit-ups, pull-ups and 1.5-mile run, will make its fourth stop in Dearborn. The inaugural Fitness Challenge tour kicked off in Boston earlier this year and continued in San Antonio and Los Angeles and later this year in Chicago.

"This Challenge is a means to encourage citizens of Metro Detroit to become more fit, and to utilize our SEAL standard as a way to measure their own level of fitness," said Captain Duncan Smith, Navy SEAL. The Navy SEAL Fitness Challenge is an athletic competition with an overriding goal of promoting physical fitness. It is identical in nature to the Navy SEAL Physical Screening Test; the test SEAL candidates must pass in order to get into the rigorous training program.

Participants in the Dearborn event will strive to achieve the physical fitness standards, which are required to begin actual SEAL training. In addition, those who participate in the Navy SEAL Fitness Challenge will have the opportunity to interact with Navy SEALS and other Naval Special Operations communities. The Navy SEAL community will be increased by over 500 qualified, physically fit team members by the year 2010.

Interested in taking it on? If you are over 13 years of age visit www.sealfitnesschallenge.com for detailed event information and to pre-register. The Navy SEAL Fitness Challenge is being offered free to the public; however, participation spots are limited, so do not delay in registering online.
