New
Space Exhibit Opens at the Detroit Science Center

Tomorrow is opening day
for the new space exhibit at the New Detroit Science Center. It's
being called "Space: A Journey to Our Future" and it's
the largest touring exhibit on space exploration and the future
of space.
Shawn Kahle, president
of The New Detroit Science Center, said, "The New Detroit
Science Center is Michigan’s premier museum for learning about
space science – from the vastness of our universe, to the
exploration of the moon, Mars and beyond. With the successful return
to flight and NASA’s new goals for space exploration, the
SPACE exhibit could not be more timely and relevant for our visitors."
Visitors to this exhibit
will be able to touch pieces of the moon and the planet of Mars.
They will be able to walk inside a scientfic base camp on the Martian
surface. NASA's current mission is to motivate our youth.
NASA Astronaut Gene Cernan,
was the 2nd American to walk in space and the last to walk on the
moon. He reports, "This exhibition could be the spark
that lights the imagination of a future astronaut or a scientist
in the space program.”
This new exhibit is geared
towards kids between the ages of 9 and 17. A teacher's activity
guide can be picked up to support the experience.
There are two IMAX presentations
to complement the Space exhibit. The theatre film "Magnificent
Desolation" lets visitors experience what astronauts saw, heard
and felt when they were on the moon. It also includes some never-before
seen photos, unreleased NASA video and much more.
The second IMAX presentation
is called "A Journey to the Edge of Space and Time." It
will answer the questions "Was there a beginning to time?"
"Are there universes beyond ours?" and "What lies
inside a black hole?" This presentation is being shown in the
Dassault Systems Planetarium.
Tickets to the exhibit,
including Science Center General Admission, are $13 for adults and
$10 for youth 2-12 and seniors. Discounts are available for groups
