To Raise Money For St. Jude
99.5 WYCD, Detroit's
Best Country is going to hold it's 6th Annual St. Jude Cares for
Kids Radiothon. It will be on February 10th and 11th at the Oakland
Mall in Troy, MI.
The radio station is
encouraging it's listeners to become a "Partner in Hope."
Those are listeners who donate the same amount of money each month
for an entire year. They can be extended for another year during
the radiothon or started for the first time.
The phone number to donate
during the radiothon is 1-800-832-9393. There will
be volunteers at the mall location to answer your call. If it's
busy, try again it's worth it. You can also donate money online
by clicking
here.
WYCD would like to know
if you have a touching story about St. Jude. Maybe you know someone
who went to the hospital and would like to tell your story. Contact
Linda Lee by calling 248-799-0614 or email at Linda@wycd.com.
I had the opportunity
to interview Linda Lee, an afternoon disc jockey at 99.5 WYCD. She
actually spent a week at the research hospital in Memphis.
Linda Lee describes her
visit, "Touring St. Jude Childrens' Research Hospital,
in Memphis TN, is truly an AMAZING experience, that could never
be forgotten. Seeing the facility, hearing from patients, families,
doctors and the researcher's, gives me a renewed passion for St.
Jude and everything they do. I have been to St. Jude, several times,
and each time, I am AMAZED again, at the continued progress they
have made, and how truly dedicated they are to SAVING the lives
of "our children"
St. Jude Research Hospital
is the #1 place to go for research of childhood catastrophic illnesses.
Nobody is turned away if they can't afford to pay for treatment.
When the hospital comes up with a cure, they share their information
with other hospitals around the globe.
All of the proceeds that
are raised will go directly to the St. Jude's Hospital located in
Memphis, Tennessee. It was founded by Danny Thomas and is currently
lead by Alabama's Randy Owen.
Linda Lee adds, "Funded
soley on public donations, they are very careful about how they
spend the money, and have the foresight, to use the donations in
the very best possible way. Such as, their on-site drug manufactuing
plant, that they have built and now operate, to produce the necessary
medication at a greatly reduced cost. This saves, probably
billions of dollars, that can then be used to continue treating
children, regardless of their families ability to pay for such costly
treatments."
Million
Pennies Campaign
99.5 WYCD is also raising
money with the Million Pennies Campaign. You can drop off your coins
or dollars at several locations in Metro Detroit. Go to any Metro
Detroit Rio Wrap locations, The Apostles Tattooing in Taylor or
LouLaRiche Chevrolet in Plymouth.
It's just one way to
get started for the upcoming radiothon in Troy.
A
Cancer Survivor Herself
Linda Lee shares her
life story that hits home, "By speaking from my heart,
and relaying all the information I have been given. St. Jude is
very near and dear to my heart. As a cancer survivor myself, I know
all too well, how devestating it is to hear the word "cancer".
When that "word" and that diagnosis, is given to a child,
I want there to ALWAYS be HOPE, which is what St. Jude continues
to give to these kids and their families."
