The
CMA-nominated duo of Jennifer Nettles and Kristian Bush
is currently touring nationwide for the very first time.
Their opening acts are Jake Owen and Little Big Town.
I caught up with Kristian Bush earlier this summer at
the Midland County Fair.
Sugarland
has learned from touring with major acts such as Kenny
Chesney, Brooks & Dunn and Brad Paisley over the
last few years. They have seen how other artists put
shows together. Sugarland duo has set a goal to create
its own style at its LIVE shows.
“We’ve
been spending the last four or five months, as the show
comes together at the very end, really kinda working
out the kinks and getting all the fun tricks ready.
All the lights and parts of the show.” says Kristian
Bush of Sugarland.
“You
know this a dream whenever you’re a musician to
go play arenas and to be the headline act. Jennifer
and I take such pride in the fact that we’re entertainers
as well as writers and musicians.”
The Change
for Change tour kicked off on September 27 in North
Charleston, South Carolina. It will visit 32 cities
between then and the end of December. The very last
performance will be at the Von Braun Civic Center in
Huntsville, Alabama. Sugarland, Little Big Town and
Jake Owen will make a stop in Michigan on December 6
at the Kellogg Arena in Battle Creek.
“We’re
gonna be playing a lot of stuff off the new record.
We’ll probably do the Bon Jovi thing. I’ll
put on the Bon Jovi whig, walk out on stage. It should
be fun,” said Bush.
Sugarland
has had two number one singles including “Want
To,” and “Settlin.” The duo also had
hits with “Baby Girl” and “Something
More” on its debut album. Their current single
is “Stay.”
What is Kristian
Bush’s favorite song to perform LIVE? “Right
now, I’m kinda of on an oldie that we had. ‘Something
More’ is kinda one of my favorites. There’s
a line in there that’s always fun to sing at night,
‘I’ve got things to do before I die,’”
said Bush.
The duo performed
on the Grand Ole Opry for the second time earlier this
summer. “Grand Ole Opry is a neat experience for
any country musician. The first time your heart’s
thumping around every corner,” said Bush.
“The
second time I realize to myself…Does this feel
like old hat? Am I comfortable here? The only thing
stranger than playing the Opry for the first time is
playing it for the second time and feeling comfortable.”
Sugarland
is nominated for the Top Vocal Duo award at this year’s
CMA Awards. It will be broadcast November 7 at 8:00
p.m. on ABC-TV.
