“Like many cities, we found hosting a restaurant week
filled our fine dining restaurants and gave customers amazing
meals at very affordable prices,” said Michele Hodges,
Troy Chamber of Commerce president. “This year will be
no exception! I encourage everyone to taste their way through
our city.”
New this spring is a dedicated website, www.troyrestaurantweek.com.
The site lists all of the participating restaurants, featured
menus, directions and reservation information. There is also
information about the charity element built in to this year’s
Troy Restaurant Week.
While diners are filling their plates, the restaurants hope
to fill the plates of those in need in the community. They have
teamed up with Gleaners Community Food Bank of SE Michigan to
hold a canned food drive throughout Troy Restaurant Week. They
will also have donation envelopes available for monetary contributions.
According to Andrea Aretakis of Morton’s The Steakhouse,
“Giving back was important to us as we planned Troy Restaurant
Week for March. We know there are people struggling in our communities
and it made perfect sense for our team of restaurants to help
a food-related charity that does so much good in our area,”
said Aretakis.
Gleaners Community Food Bank of SE Michigan will be collecting
all non-perishable food and are especially encouraging donors
to give canned fruit and canned proteins such as peanut butter,
tuna, salmon and beef stew. Checks payable to Gleaners Community
Food Bank are also welcome. For each dollar, they can feed a
child for a day. Ninety-five cents of each $1.00 donated goes
to food and food programs. Each donor who writes a check will
receive a thank you letter that may be used for tax purposes.
The dates for the summer Troy Restaurant Week are August 22-27,
2010. For more information on spring or summer Troy Restaurant
Week, visit www.troyrestaurantweek.com.
