FONTANA, Calif. -- California native Kevin Harvick took home the checkered flag in the Drive4Clots.com 300 at Auto Club Speedway on Saturday afternoon. He also received the 3M Lap Leader award for leading 100 laps of the 150-lap race. Harvick won $75,407, but was ineligible for points because he competes full-time in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series.

“I’m excited to win here, the only thing we won here was one Cup race,” said Harvick, who was born in Bakersfield, Calif. “I came really close to winning in the Xfinity series in the past. I grew up an hour twenty, hour thirty, depending on how fast you want to drive from here to there. All in all, I had a good week there. I’ve done a lot of things in town this week with the Boys and Girls Club. I’ve enjoyed this west coast swing not only for the success, but just being able to spend time with a lot of people you don’t get to see very much.”

It was his second win in the NASCAR Xfinity Series and 46th victory in the series overall. Harvick, who drives the No. 88 Chevrolet for JR Motorsports, picked up his first victory at Auto Club Speedway. This marks his fourth win of the season if you include his two victories in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series—his first in Las Vegas and his second at Phoenix.

“Kevin’s automatic pretty much every time he gets in the car,” said team owner Dale Earnhardt Jr. “He does a great job and we’re real happy. Obviously, he’s an amazing race car driver. He’s way better than anybody ever thought. He puts as much effort outside the car as he does inside the car. Just to the simplest details he’s real plugged in. We’re glad to be able to work with Kevin.”

The Drive4Clots.com 300 race lasted two hours, one minute and 51 seconds. The average speed was 147.723 mph. Harvick’s margin of victory over Brendan Gaughan was 3.317 seconds.

There were no major crashes in Saturday’s race. The caution flag was waved only three times during the race – debris on laps 34-37, fluid on the track for laps 48-51 and debris again on laps 118-121. There were 13 lead changes among eight different drivers.

“I’m fortunate to be a part of two really good race teams,” Harvick added. “Dale Jr. and Mr. Hendrick give us a lot of resources to draw from. We’re able to assemble a great group of guys who have worked together for a while. I feel like we’ve made good decisions all three weeks that we’ve been in the car and have had a competitive run.”

Pole winner Erik Jones finished third in the Drive4Clots.com 300. Brendan Gaughan ended up in second place after starting eighth. Chase Elliott finished fourth while Chris Buescher rounded out the top five drivers.

There are very few changes to the driver points standings following Saturday’s race. Ty Dillion continues to lead with 187 points in the NASCAR Xfinity Series. Chris Buescher is just five points behind with Chase Elliott 10 points behind him. Elliott moved up one slot while Ryan Reed moved down one position with 168 points. Darrell Wallace Jr. is just three points behind him. Brian Scott moved up four spots from 14th to 10th.

The next Xfinity series race will be the O’Reilly Auto Parts 300 on April 10 at Texas Motor Speedway.
