Mich. to promote the upcoming CARFAX 250 and 400
races at Michigan International Speedway on August
14 and 15. MIS President Roger Curtis and Ford North
American Motorsports President Jamie Allison were
also in attendance at the press conference. The
Henry Ford Museum just began fundraising for a new
$15-million permanent exhibit called "Racing
in America," which is scheduled open at the

invites fans to drive their car on the track for
three laps
Chuck
Kaminskas and his younger brother Greg thought it
was a great experience. “It was something
very special. We will remember this forever,”
the brothers from Royal Oak and Westland, Mich.,
respectively, said following their laps around Michigan
International Speedway on Monday. That’s the
memories many fans experienced during the first
day of the Track Laps Program, which took place
from noon until 1 p.m. on the speedway’s two-mile
oval. MIS opened its race track for select dates
in August and September, giving fans the opportunity
to drive their personal vehicles on the track. |

Abel returning to MIS for post-race concert on Saturday
If
fans couldn’t get enough great rock ‘n’
roll when Saving Abel performed at Michigan International
Speedway in June, the popular band will return during
the Show Me the CARFAX Race weekend on August 14-15
and rock the house again. Saving Abel will perform
at the speedway’s Budweiser Acceleration Concert
following the conclusion of the NASCAR Nationwide
Series CARFAX 250 on Saturday, August 14. |

Off' tournament
Like
race fans, many NASCAR Sprint Cup Series drivers
are also avid outdoorsman, making the MIS Cares
“Fish Your Bass Off” Tournament the
perfect destination before the Show Me the CARFAX
race weekend. NASCAR Sprint Cup drivers Joey Logano
and Elliott Sadler, along with former champion Bobby
Allison, will appear at the Fish Your Bass Off Tournament,
which will take place on Thursday, August 12 at
Jerry’s Pub & Restaurant on scenic Wampler’s
Lake just minutes from the speedway. |
NASCAR
Nationwide Series practice open to the public
on Aug. 12
With
the new NASCAR Nationwide Series car making its
debut at Michigan International Speedway next
weekend, the speedway has decided to open the
race track to the public for the new car’s
practice sessions on Thursday, August 12. Best
of all, it’s free! The practice sessions
will be held from 9 a.m.-Noon and 1 p.m.-4 p.m.
The sessions will test the cars in preparation
for the Nationwide Series CARFAX 250 race on Saturday,
August 14 at MIS.

Tom
Izzo to serve as honorary pace car driver
In
his 15 years with the Spartans, Tom Izzo has
done just about everything: four-time national
coach of the year, six NCAA Final Four appearances
and one basketball national championship. Now
he can add pace car driver to his resume. The
Michigan State University men’s basketball
coach will drive the pace car for the CARFAX
400 at Michigan International Speedway when
the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series returns Aug. 15.

Nationwide drivers to participate in Thursday
autograph session
When
the staff at Michigan International Speedway decided
the track should open its gates for fans to watch
the new NASCAR Nationwide car practice for free
on Thursday, drivers in the series reciprocated
by volunteering for an autograph session. Some
of the series brightest stars including Justin
Allgaier, Chase Austin, Michael Annett, Trevor
Bayne, Colin Braun, Shelby Howard, Brian Keselowski,
Reed Sorenson, Jason Leffler, Tayler Malsam, Joe
Nemechek, Danica Patrick, Robert Richardson Jr.,
Brian Scott, Morgan Shepherd and Ryan Truex are
scheduled to participate in an autograph session
from 4:30 to 5:15 p.m. Thursday underneath the
Turn 1 grandstand.

Five-time
heavyweight boxing champion Evander Holyfield has
been named co-grand marshal for this weekend’s
NASCAR Sprint Cup Series CARFAX 400 at Michigan
International Speedway. Evander “Real Deal”
Holyfield is the only professional boxer to win
the heavyweight boxing title five times and is one
of the greatest boxers in history. The former contestant
of the first season of “Dancing with the Stars”
has an impressive boxing record of 43 wins (28 by
knock out), 10 losses and 2 draws. |

Nationwide car on Thursday morning. The new cars
consist of the Chevrolet Impala, the Dodge Challenger,
the Ford Mustang and the Toyota Camry. These cars
were first tested in Daytona on July 2. Some say
the new car looks more like the Sprint Cup car,
but it drives like a truck.

Keselowski wins the CARFAX 250 at MIS with Carl
Edwards finishing close behind
The
Rochester Hills native returned to victory lane
for the second straight year in the CARFAX 250
at Michigan International Speedway (MIS). Brad
Keselowski, 26, brought his No. 22 Discount Tire
Dodge into the winner’s circle on Saturday
afternoon. Keselowski started the race and won
it from the pole. This was his eighth pole in
127 NASCAR Nationwide Series races and his first
pole in four races at MIS.

chief Gil Martin were joking on the radio about
where Gatorade Victory Lane was located following

at Michigan International Speedway. “It’s
been seven years since I’ve been in Victory
Lane here, but my first in the Sprint Cup. I’m
not sure how to even get there,” Harvick
