BROOKLYN,
Mich. -- One of the hidden secrets that makes
Michigan International Speedway so special to race fans
is that they make a vacation out of their experience by
camping at the speedway.
Instead of
traveling the day of a NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series race or
staying in a local hotel, fans are continuously taking
advantage of the affordable camping that MIS has to offer.
Each year, MIS offers nearly 8,500 campsites in nine different
Walt Michal's RV Superstore-sponsored campgrounds on speedway
property, which gives fans plenty of opportunity to bring
their family or friends to MIS for a race weekend vacation
that is full of fun and excitement.
"Camping
at Michigan International Speedway is a great way to escape
everyday life and experience a race weekend from a different
perspective," track President Roger Curtis said.
"Because we are nestled in the scenic Irish Hills,
camping here is like being in a national park. You get
the tranquility of the great outdoors, yet, you get to
hear the thundering sounds of stock cars driven by your
favorite NASCAR drivers such as Jeff Gordon and Tony Stewart."
Camping at
MIS provides a vacation getaway for fans that enjoy the
exciting racing action of NASCAR and the IRL IndyCar Series.
Every year, motorhomes, tents and pop-up campers ascend
on MIS with the idea of sitting around a campfire, cooking
out with family and friends and enjoying the scenic views
of the 2-mile track right in their backyard. The camping
experience at MIS is a fun and affordable way to see some
of the greatest racing anywhere in the country.
New to MIS
this year is the Pit Road Motorcoach Campground. The new
campground is unique in that it features campsites right
on pit road, which will give fans spectacular up-close
views directly from their motorhome. It's an experience
you can't get at any other race track. The Pit Road Campground
is replacing the old pit terrace seats along pit road.
These new premium campsites, which feature water and electric
hook-ups, are selling quickly.
"I've
been camping with friends at MIS for a long time and it
never gets old," season ticket holder and 2005 MIS
Fan of the Year Oscar Ortiz said. "My race weekend
experience isn't complete unless we camp. Camping and
racing are what make MIS so special. I would encourage
anyone to take advantage of the great camping at MIS.
It's worth it."
One of the
fun activities that goes along with camping at MIS is
the campsite contest. Each year, fans can decorate their
sites with a specific theme selected by the speedway.
In 2007, June's weekend will be a "Hawaiian Luau"
theme followed by the "Wizard of Oz" for the
IRL IndyCar Series weekend and "Christmas" for
the August 3M Performance 400 weekend.
Campsites are
selling quickly and range from $125 to $2,000 per site.
Sites can be purchased for 1-7 nights, depending on the
campground you stay in. For more information or to order
a campsite at MIS, call 800-354-1010.
