DETROIT, Mich. – While the racing action will be fast and furious, the activities off the track will be fun and fantastic at this weekend’s Chevrolet Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix, May 30-June 1.

The Meijer Fan Zone will feature non-stop activities and something for fans of all ages at the Grand Prix. Located inside the Raceway at Belle Isle Park venue and across the Chevrolet Bridge, the Meijer Fan Zone will feature music, entertainment, games and interactive displays for all fans – as well as an added extreme element in 2014.

Monster truck rides and BMX demonstrations all weekend will bring a bit of an “extreme” feel to the Meijer Fan Zone. Fans will be able to get up close and personal with a monster truck, including FREE family-friendly rides from 9 am to 5 pm during race weekend. The Monster Energy Drink BMX Team will take flight at 10 am, 11:30 am, 1:30 pm and 3 pm all three days of the Grand Prix with 30-minute demonstrations on the temporary BMX course.

The MotorCity Casino Hotel Entertainment Stage will once again be one of the most popular stops in the Meijer Fan Zone, featuring musical acts all weekend long. Los Angeles rock band Lifehouse will headline the stage on Saturday with a 6:15 pm show, while Jamaican reggae artist Shaggy will hold a matinee concert on Sunday at 12:30 pm. Local bands will also rock the stage throughout the weekend with 2XL and Rock & Roll Prep School on Friday, Orbis on Saturday and L’USA and Anna de Ferran, the daughter of former IndyCar champion Gil de Ferran,, on Sunday.

New to the Grand Prix and the Fan Zone this year is the Detroit Sports District, featuring displays from all of the local Detroit professional sports teams. Some of Detroit’s sports legends will be in attendance meeting fans and signing free autographs including James Edwards, Dave Rozema, Mateen Cleaves, Dan Petry, Joe Kocur and more. Fans will also be able to test their baseball and basketball skills with the Speed Pitch, Batting Cage and Three-Point Shoot Out interactive games.

Fans will also have a chance to meet and get autographs from their favorite Grand Prix drivers in the Meijer Fan Zone. The Verizon IndyCar Series drivers will sign autographs in the Verizon IndyCar Fan Village on Sunday, June 1 from 12:00 pm-1:00 pm, while the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship drivers will sign in the Fan Zone from 9:45 am-10:30 am on Saturday, May 31. The Pirelli World Challenge Series drivers will sign for fans on Friday, May, 30 from 2:30 pm-3:30 pm in the Optimum Battery Display.

Race fans will enjoy the Verizon IndyCar Fan Village with its unique displays and interactive games highlighting the stars of the Verizon IndyCar Series. Chevrolet will also have a display in the Fan Zone featuring their new lineup of cars and trucks, along with the new Chevy Garage social media area. In this area, fans will be able to take “selfies” with life-size Fathead standees of Chevrolet Indianapolis 500 winners and be encouraged share their Grand Prix experiences through social media.

Fans looking for good food and a refreshing beverage will enjoy the Leinenkugel Biergarten and Food Court. Featuring Tim Hortons, El Guapo, Mac Shack, Grindhouse and Andiamo Pizza Pie, the Food Court will have something for everyone to enjoy. The Biergarten will also be serving beer and Bloody Marys to fans, while providing a place to relax and enjoy some of the on-track action with four flat-screen TVs. WRIF radio will be broadcasting live from the Biergarten throughout the weekend and their area will include a racing simulator from Dave and Busters, bean bag toss game and giant beer pong for fans to enjoy.

The Quicken Loans Vendor Village will also be featured in the Meijer Fan Zone this year. Fans will be able to get all of their racing merchandise in one area, including items from the Chevrolet Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix, Verizon IndyCar Series, TUDOR United SportsCar Championship, Pirelli World Challenge Series and the SPEED Energy Stadium SUPER Truck Series, along with some of the individual race teams. Grand Prix official clothing supplier Made in Detroit will also have products on display in Vendor Village.

“There will be so much for people to do and see in the Meijer Fan Zone, it might be tough for them to find time to actually see some cars racing at the Grand Prix!” said Bud Denker, Chairman of the Chevrolet Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix. “We’ve added a lot more activities this year and we think our fans are going to love all the options and all the fun in the Meijer Fan Zone.”
