BROOKLYN,
MI. – The vibrant colors and high-pitched sounds
of the IRL IndyCar® Series won’t be the only things tickling
fans’ senses during the Firestone Indy 400 weekend at MIS
on July 29 and 30. Fans looking to add to their race day experience
can venture behind the center grandstand and visit the AAA Motorsports
Fan Plaza for a full day’s worth of fun, and perhaps a little
bit of learning as well.
Corvette enthusiasts will show off their cars for all MIS guests
to see at the 5th Annual Corvettes at MIS presented by AutoWeek
exhibition. Located conveniently in the AAA Motorsports Fan Plaza,
the exhibition will give MIS guests a chance to admire Corvettes
from the past and present. Celebrity judges will again be on hand
to vote for their favorite Corvettes on Saturday. Past judges have
included open-wheel great Bobby Unser, current drivers Scott Sharp
and Buddy Rice, and 2006 Indy 500 champion Sam Hornish Jr. Fans
will be able to vote for their favorite in the People’s Choice
Award category on Sunday.
Corvette and racing memorabilia will be available in a silent auction
to benefit the National Corvette Museum.
MIS is a facility rich in open-wheel racing tradition, which started
with Ronnie Bucknum’s win in the inaugural race in October
1968. While MIS fans look forward to welcoming the current faces
of the IndyCar Series, the champions of the past will also be honored
for their role in the storied history of open-wheel racing.
Historic cars that were once driven by past MIS champions, including
A.J. Foyt, Bobby Rahal, Johnny Rutherford, Rick Mears, Al Unser,
and Bobby Unser, will be included in the weekend’s on-track
activities, including the pre-race parade on Sunday.
AM910 Radio Disney will bring the fun and excitement of Disney to
the AAA Motorsports Fan Plaza from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Sunday.
At 12:30 p.m., the D-Tour, Radio Disney’s live interactive
show featuring games, dance routines, and family fun in a high-energy
DJ format, will get underway. Families from the audience will have
the chance to compete for DVDs, fun “wearables” and
other goodies while the crowd dances to hits like “Follow
The Leader” and “The Cha Cha Slide.”
Beginning at 9 a.m., families will have the chance to register to
win a 2007 Hyundai Entourage SE, the new minivan with unsurpassed
standard safety features and room to spare. After that, fans can
check out the rest of the Ultimate Kids Zone that will feature bounce
houses, the Playstation Racing Zone, temporary tattoos, face painting,
karaoke and slot car racing.
More information about AM910 Radio Disney and the D-Tour is available
at www.radiodisney.com/wfdfam910.
Before leaving for their seats and watching the green flag drop,
fans can learn something too as the Amoco Ultimate® @ BP®
Tour will be on site. The Tour will feature a tanker with interactive
modules to challenge consumers and their knowledge about gasoline.
Along with the tanker, the Amoco Ultimate @ BP Tour will feature
a dynamometer show that demonstrates different fuel efficiencies
and wandering “quizmasters” who will be on hand to ask
questions and hand out prizes.
Firestone and AutoWeek will also be on site with extensive displays
for fans to see and enjoy.
