Lions
hire Rod Marinelli as new Coach
Unless you have literally
been living under a rock in the Metro Detroit area for the last
6 years, then you know the Lions are horrible. This team has been
considered a disgrace to the Detroit area. Countless people have
given up on the Lions ever winning anything. Now Lions President
Matt Millen has made a new hire at the position of Head coach. In
Thursday’s edition of the Detroit News, Mike O’hara
is reporting that Rod Marinelli has been hired to coach the Lions.
This report is a completely
against all of the rumors that we have been hearing now for the
last few days. Russ Grimm and Jim Haslet were suppose to be the
leading candidates. Russ Grim is an assistant with the Steelers
who are still in the playoffs, Haslet lead the Saints to a 3-13
record. Haslet was dismissed because he coached a team to a worse
record then the Lions.
Marinelli comes to the
Lions after 10 years with the Bucs. This man is known for having
an attitude and demanding players to perform. Rod coached Warren
Sapp and Simenion Rice each to career high years in Sacks. The man
has done great work as the defensive line coach of the bucs. Millen
hopes he can do the same with The Lions. If Dick Jaruon is not hired
as head coach of the Bills, he will pry return as Lions defensive
coordinator. The offensive coordinator position is still not known.
Marinelli is believed
to have complete control of who plays. If Marinelli and Quarterback
Joey Harrington do not get along it could be goodbye to Joey. The
Lions have the 9th overall pick in the 2006 NFL draft in APRIL.
It is not known If USC stand out Matt Leinhart or Texas Stand Out
QB Vince Young will be available.
