Webber carries Pistons over Clippers
to 7 straight wins
The Detroit
Pistons increased their winning streak to seven with a 92-74 victory
over the Los Angeles Clippers Monday night at the Palace of Auburn
Hills.
All five
Piston starters were in double figures led by Chris Webber who ended
with 19 points and nine rebounds. Richard Hamilton added 15 points
and five assists.
The Clippers
ended their seven game road trip at the Palace without Elton Brand
who is out with back spasms. Brand’s absence has shown significantly
for the Clippers. He leads the team in points, rebounds and blocks.
Cuttino
Mobley led the Clippers with 17 points. Corey Maggette added 15
points and eight rebounds. Michigan native, Chris Kaman, fouled
out late in the fourth with 13 points.
The Pistons
led 45-38 at the half holding the Clippers to 34.2 percent shooting.
Detroit
opened the third quarter with a 13-3 run to go up on L.A. by 17.
Sam Cassell
opened the fourth for the Clippers with a three point play, but
Webber answered with four quick points followed by an Antonio McDyess
put-back dunk. The win was Detroit’s eighth straight victory
over the Clippers.
Since Webber’s
homecoming, Detroit has won 11 of their last 14 and has regained
its position atop the Eastern Conference. They sit 2 1/2 games over
the Cleveland Cavaliers in the Central Division.
The Pistons
will take on Tim Duncan and the San Antonio Spurs Wednesday at the
Palace. The Spurs have lost two straight and sit nine games behind
Dallas in the Southwest Division.
