phase of MIS repave project complete
When
the checkered flag dropped at the end of the Heluva
Good! Sour Cream Dips 400 on June 19, the green
flag was waved for Phase 1 of the Michigan International
Speedway Track Repaving Project. After just 30 days,
pit road has now been repaved thus completing Phase

Theory to headline August Budweiser Acceleration
Concert
Race
fans will be able to rock the house during the
Pure Michigan 400 race weekend at Michigan International
Speedway, as the popular rock band Rev Theory
is slated to headline the Budweiser Acceleration
Concert. Rev Theory and four other bands will
perform at the speedway’s Budweiser Acceleration
Concert following the conclusion of the NASCAR
Camping World Truck Series VFW 200 on Saturday,
August 20.

Proving
once again Michigan International Speedway and NASCAR
are the leaders in recognizing its fans, speedway
officials have announced a new element to the track’s
popular and ever-growing Fan Appreciation Program.
“MIS ALL ACCESS” on Friday, Aug. 19
ensures fans get unprecedented access to the sport
of NASCAR – and its stars. Some of the superstars

Sprint Cup Series driver Clint Bowyer doesn’t
claim to be a great golfer, but he certainly had
a lot of fun trying with Michigan International
Speedway race fans on Thursday. Bowyer, who drives
the No. 33 Chevrolet for Richard Childress Racing,
golfed with MIS race fans and participated in a
question and answer session at the track’s

plays host to inaugural “Fight Night for the
Troops” event to benefit the VFW Foundation
On
Friday, August 19 at the Budweiser Acceleration
Club at Michigan International Speedway, the VFW
Foundation will hold its first-ever “Fight
Night for the Troops” event benefiting its
Return the Favor campaign, which supports the military
assistance programs of the VFW. The event will feature
live amateur boxing sanctioned by USA Boxing, Inc.
and organized by Bob Kerr Boxing Club. It will be
hosted by Former Heavyweight Champion of the World,
Larry Holmes. |

Rubber and a Few Calories: NASCAR Drivers to Set
the Pace for Fans at Michigan Coca-Cola Family Track
Walk
Imagine
being on the track, lined up alongside some of the
top drivers in NASCAR. As the green flag waves,
you accelerate down the frontstretch before heading
into Turn 1. Seems far-fetched, right? Maybe not,
if you’re traveling at four miles per hour.
On August 21 at Michigan International Speedway,
Greg Biffle, Jamie McMurray and Joey Logano will
turn laps at a much slower pace than usual, as they
hit the racetrack on foot alongside fans for the
Coca-Cola Family Track Walk.

Nationwide Series Driver Danica Patrick spoke
to a group of 200 fans at a free event on Monday
inside the Henry Ford Museum's Anderson Theatre.
The topic was COPD, which stands for chronic obstructive
pulmonary disease. Patrick said she lost her grandmother
to the disease. She also discussed her season
this year along with past races on Detroit's Belle
Isle and at Michigan International Speedway. In
addition, the driver hopes the race will return
to the island in the middle of the Detroit River
for 2012.

Desmond
Howard to serve as Pure Michigan 400 Grand Marshal
Famous
for his Heisman pose, stopping for a few pictures
shouldn’t be a problem for the Pure Michigan
400 grand marshal. Desmond Howard, the former
Heisman Trophy-winning University of Michigan
football star and current ESPN college football
analyst, will serve as grand marshal for the NASCAR
Sprint Cup Series Pure Michigan 400 on Aug. 21.
“He’s given college football fans
excitement throughout his career so it will be
great to host a superstar like Desmond Howard
at Michigan International Speedway and show him
how exciting NASCAR is,” MIS President Roger
Curtis said.

Cares to host second “Fish Your Bass Off”
Tournament on Aug. 18
What
better way to kick off a race weekend in the Irish
Hills then by fishing your bass off! Michigan
International Speedway’s non-profit arm,
MIS Cares, will host the second annual “Fish
Your Bass Off” tournament at Jerry’s
Pub & Restaurant on scenic Wampler’s
Lake just minutes from the Irish Hills speedway.
The tournament is 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. Thursday,
August 18. At 5 p.m., 13 teams of four, with two
anglers per boat, will take to the waters of Wamplers
Lake for three hours of bass fishing.

Johnson to visit with MIS Kids Club members
This
one is for the kids! MIS Kids Club members will
have the opportunity to take part in an exclusive
Q&A Session with the five-time defending NASCAR
Sprint Cup Series champion Jimmie Johnson prior
to the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Pure Michigan 400
on Sunday, Aug. 21. The MIS Kids Club event will
begin at 10:15 a.m. in the MIS Cares Kids Zone in
the New Holland Fan Plaza. Registration tables will
be available beginning at 9:30 a.m. to scan MIS
Kids Club membership cards, as well as sign up new
members. |

Mich.’s Brady Reuter will be “Riding
Shotgun with Kyle Busch Motorsports” at MIS
Kyle
Busch Motorsports (KBM) is pleased to announce that
7-year-old Brady Reuter from Hudson, Mich. has been
selected as the winner of the “Riding Shotgun
with Kyle Busch Motorsports” essay contest
for Michigan International Speedway. Reuter’s
name and picture will adorn the area above the passenger
side window of Kyle Busch’s No. 18 Traxxas
Tundra for the VFW 200 NASCAR Camping World Truck
Series race Saturday, Aug. 20 and he will have the
opportunity to attend the race with three guests

serve as honorary starter
Ford
Motor Companys President and CEO Alan Mulally
will wave the green flag as honorary starter for
Sundays Pure Michigan 400 at Michigan International
Speedway. As racing returns to the Irish Hills
in the backyard of the auto industry, Mulally
is excited to represent his company and the state
of Michigan. “I am looking forward to representing
the entire Ford team by waving the green flag
at the start of the Pure Michigan 400," said
Mulally.

Clydesdales to visit MIS for first time in 15
years

You Know? Pure Michigan 400 and VFW 200 Facts
Current
ESPN college football analyst and former Heisman
Trophy winner at the University of Michigan, Desmond
Howard, will serve as the grand marshal for the
Pure Michigan 400. Howard also played 11 NFL seasons
most notably with the Detroit Lions and Green
Bay Packers (where he won the Super Bowl MVP award).
The recent College Football Hall of Fame inductee
will say the command to start engines for the
Pure Michigan 400. Ford Motor Company President
and CEO Alan Mulally will serve as the Pure Michigan
400 honorary starter. Ford has the most Sprint
Cup Series wins at MIS with 31. Chevrolet is second
with 19.

and the #9 Kwikset showcars rolled into the Home
Depot store in Livonia, Mich. The showcars were
on hand for one day only. Joey Logano drives the
#20 car in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. Marcos
Ambrose drives the #9 car in the NASCAR Sprint
Cup Series. The showcars and the trailers were
both parked in front of the store.

Kevin
Harvick earns MIS trifecta with VFW 200 victory
Kevin
Harvick drove his way around a series of late-race
crashes to find Gatorade Victory Lane on Saturday
during the VFW 200 at Michigan International Speedway.
Harvick became the first driver to win in all
three major NASCAR series events at MIS with victories
in the Truck, Nationwide and Sprint Cup Series.
It was also his second straight win in the Truck
Series this season and 11th in his 111th series
start.

Kyle
Busch wins Pure Michigan 400
NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver
Kyle Busch really wanted a NASCAR Sprint Cup Series
victory at Michigan International Speedway. After
six years racing on the circuit and 13 Sprint
Cup Series race starts in the Irish Hills, Busch
finally got his wish by taking the checkered flag
for the Pure Michigan 400 on Sunday. “Awesome!”
Busch responded as if at a loss for words.
