Winter Blast Includes Fun For All
The 2nd Annual Motown
Winter Blast is expected to be 3x bigger than last year. It will
include ice skating, Model-T rides, a 200-ft long snow slide, ice
sculpures and more. Also, look for dog sledding, lots of FREE music
and good cuisine from all over Metro Detroit.
First, let's highlight
the music. There will be five stages of entertainment. The biggest
one which includes the national acts is the Sprint Stage. Some of
the acts you will see include the likes of Smash Mouth, Clint Black
and Kem. The Chrysler Jeep Dodge stage features R&B and Jazz
music. There will be a stage for Rock music and also one sponosored
by Fifth Third Bank. Meijer is sponsoring the Kids Stage which has
local country bands like Janis Leigh, Laura Wilkie, Willie Nash,
Cherie and The Forbes Brothers.
Ford Motor Company is
sponsoring the Family Fun Zone. Here you'll find hands-on activities
for kids. There will also be professional skaters on the rink at
Campus Martius. Also, look for Model-T rides. On Saturday at 1:30
p.m. you can skate with alumni from the Detroit red Wings. Todd
Eldredge will be skating at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday.
General Motors is sponsoring
the Ice Garden. That's where you will find the Sprint Stage where
many national acts will be performing. Remember it's all FREE of
charge. Get in on all the fun with Super Bowl XL and the Motown
Winter Blast. Have you ever been to the Plymouth Ice Spectacular?
In the Ice Garden, there will be many ice sculptures for your viewing
pleasure.
Chrysler Jeep Dodge is
sponsoring the Taste of Detroit. There will be 22 restaurants located
just outsite of the Hard Rock Cafe. You will be able to taste food
from many of Metro Detroit's finest restaurants. Some of the names
to look for include Buffalo Wild Wings, Harbor House, La Shish,
National Coney Island, Seldom Blues, Small Plates, Crystal Gardens
and more.
Michigan.org is sponsoring
the Winter Experience. You will be able to take your turn at the
200 foot snow slide. At the low cost of $2 you can do it. There
will be four lanes because of the high volume of people. Dog sleds
are returning for the second year in a row. If they are not racing,
you will have the chance to pet the dogs.
The Motown Winter Blast
will be taking place at Campus Martius Park. It runs from Thursday,
Feb. 2nd until Sunday, Feb. 5th. The hours are 4 p.m. to midnight
on Thursday, 11 a.m. to 1 a.m. on Friday and Saturday and 10 a.m.
to 1 p.m. on Sunday.
There will be several
road closures that we would like to tell you about. Woodward Ave.
will be closed from Park Ave. to Congress St. Farmer Street will
be closed from Woodward to State St. Woodward Ave. will also be
closed from Adams Ave. to Mack. Gratiot Ave. will be closed from
Broadway St. to Orleans St. We highly suggest parking your car and
using the Detroit People Mover. It will be operating with extended
hours all week long.
