Monday, 4 February, 2008 11:39 PM Giants upset the Patriots and win Super Bowl XLII
Last night, a 18-0 team fell to a team that was at one point considered done. Eli Manning, a quarterback who has never been a star, finally stepped up and took over. The Giants and Patriots may have only been a combined 31 point game, but it was epic nonetheless. The Patriots were heavy favorites and given a 12 point spread by Vegas just last week. No one thought the Giants had a chance, even in the closing seconds, the Patriots tried and tried. Usually all the season they would pull it off in that situation. Asante Samuel dropped and fell out of bounds while trying to secure the 17-14 lead. But no! The Giants continued their rally and took the game. For Eli, it was the second year in a row a Manning brother has won a superbowl. Despite his father never winning one, the last two Super Bowls have been won by a Manning brother. The Giants strong team play and relentless blitzing and never giving up aided them to the win. Eli Manning was named the game's MVP despite throwing one interception and two touchdowns. Tom Brady was only able to throw one touchdown pass and he had no interceptions. This was Brady's first loss in a superbowl, he is now 3-1 in Super Bowls and according to some experts he lost his spot among the best by collapsing under the pass rush and the spotlight.
