2014 Taste of the Lions was a great time for all
Billy Sims BBQ at the 2nd Annual Taste of the Lions
DETROIT -- The 2nd Annual Taste of Lions 2014 was held at Ford Field in Detroit. Here was a chance to meet and greet the Detroit Lions' players up close and personal. Some players autographed footballs, chef aprons and even eco bags. I had my picture taken with T.J. Jones, Jonte Green, DeJon Gomes, Alex Bullard and D.J. Morell. Head Coach Jim Caldwell was there along with Reggie Bush. Entertainment was provided by Chris Delgado and Annabelle Road. There was a silent auction with items like jerseys, an autographed football, hat and helmets.
Now the best for last. There were 26 food stations serving food from some of the finest restaurants in Detroit. I had some pulled pork tacos from Steve & Rocky's, barbecue rib sliders from the Detroit Beer Company, white cheddar grits with shrimp and lobster ragu from 2 Unique Caterers and Events, just to name a few. The restaurants serving were: Angelina Italian Bistro, Billy Sims BBQ, Coach Insignia, Ottava Via, Prime 29 Steakhouse, The Rattlesnake Club, Zingermans Bakehouse & Creamery and Great Lakes Coffee, among many others.
Ford Motor Company partnered with the Detroit Lions to help eradicate food insecurity and teach nutrition education to elementary and middle school students. Ford sponsored the Taste of the Lions. There is a long legacy of compassion at Ford Motor Company. These top chefs and the Detroit Lions raise money in support of food banks to feed the hungry. This event is a unique way to experience exceptional cuisine, meet the Lions and their Coach, and support the fight against hunger. What a great event!
