Manning and Colts win Super Bowl
The Michigan
Wolverines and Ohio State Buckeyes took their rivalry to the hardwood
Tuesday night in Columbus. Ohio State beat Michigan 76-63 and improved
their record to 22-3 and 9-1 in the Big Ten.
Michigan
hung tough early going into halftime trailing the Buckeyes by only
four points. In the second half, though, it was all Ohio State with
the Buckeyes proving why they are ranked number three in the nation.
Points were
hard to come by for both teams at the start of the game. The first
points were scored by Ohio State freshman center Greg Oden almost
three full minutes into the first half.
Ohio State
point guard Mike Conley Jr. scored a game high 23 points and had
six assists and broke Ohio State’s record for freshman scoring
that was previous held by Michael Redd who is now a Milwaukee Buck.
Wolverine
center Courtney Simms led Michigan with 17 points and eight rebounds.
Oden contributed
a strong defensive effort for the Buckeyes even though he spent
a number of minutes on the bench in the second half when he got
into foul trouble. Oden had five blocks and eight rebounds and chipped
in offensively with 15 points.
Senior guard
Dion Harris and freshman forward Ekpe Udoh both added 14 points
for the Wolverines.
The loss
drops Michigan to 16-8 overall and 4-5 in the Big Ten. The Wolverines
are going to need a strong finish in the regular season and a decent
run in the Big Ten tournament to have a chance at making it into
the NCAA tournament in March.
The Wolverines
will get another shot at upsetting the Buckeyes when the teams meet
in Ann Arbor on March 3 for the final game of the regular season.
Michigan will return home to take on the Minnesota Golden Gophers
this Saturday.
