Movie review: ‘Zoolander No. 2’ comes packed with lots of action and adventure

I have never seen the first “Zoolander” movie. So I came into the theater with a fresh perspective and an open mind. I understand the first movie of the franchise featured Derek Zoolander killing the Prime Minister of Malaysia.

“Zoolander No. 2” opens in dramatic fashion with a motorcycle chase and guns firing off. Justin Bieber is shot several times to his death. It kept me on the edge of my seat. Shortly after, Derek Zoolander (played by Ben Stiller) retires from the fashion industry.

Then, we fast forward 15 years to 2016 where he and Hansel (played by Owen Wilson) team up once again and get invited to Rome to participate in a fashion show. They later become part of an Interpol investigation to find Justin’s killer.

At the end of the movie, will they find Justin’s killer? If so who is it? You’ll have to go see it to find out. No spoilers here.

Will Ferrell went on “The Late Show” to promote the movie dressed like an animal expert. He brought several animals to the taping of the show. However, it had nothing to do with the film. He offered lots of laughs for viewers after Super Bowl 50.

“Zoolander No. 2” is rated PG-13 for crude and sexual content, a scene of exaggerated violence, and brief strong language. It is 1 hour and 42 minutes long. Scenes for this film were shot in and around Rome, Italy.

I think it is a good movie with lots of twists and turns. They had magic and special powers. Stiller and Wilson were funny as usual. Ferrell played more of a serious character. I thought it was kind of weird seeing a funny guy in that role.

OVERALL GRADE: B+
