College Basketball: Green Bay Wins Horizon League Title at The Joe

DETROIT —  Green Bay took the lead and never looked back as they methodically won the Little Caesars Horizon League Tournament Championship played at Joe Louis Arena.  Put it in the books with an exclamation point, as they beat a spirited Wright State squad 78-69.

In front of a national audience on ESPN television, the Phoenix punched their ticket for the Horizon League’s automatic bid into 2016 NCAA Men’s Tournament.  Senior guard Jordan Fouse led Green Bay in scoring, getting 16 points in the victory.  He was named Tournament MVP.

Wright State started cold, going 4-for-21 from the field at the beginning of the game.  The Raiders battled back and pulled it with six points.  Green Bay continued their hot shooting and led at half-time 42-30.

Green Bay opened their biggest lead of the game at 19 points when junior guard Charles Cooper energized the crowd with a monster dunk.  Wright State pulled within seven points in the final minute.  Green Bay stalled the comeback bid by converting their free throws

Joining Fouse and Cooper on the All-Tournament Team was Green Bay teammate Carrington Love (senior).  Also named were Wright State senior forward JT Yoho and Valparaiso junior guard Alec Peters.

Native son of Christchurch, New Zealand, senior center (6’10”) Michael Karina had 14 points in 21-minutes for Wright State.  Seniors Fouse and Love have appeared in every game they dressed for, 133, a Green Bay record.
