The AmericaJR.com Web Team visited The Torrey Pines Gliderport during their recent trip to San Diego. It offers paragliding and hang gliding lessons and tandem flights. Full-scale sailplanes are operated by the Associated Glider Clubs of Southern California (AGCSC), only during special permit windows between February and April, while models, hang gliders, and paragliders fly any time the wind permits. The local Flight Director and Concessionaire maintains and enforces safety rules to protect both pilots and spectators. Charles A. Lindbergh flew along the coast from Mt. Soledad to Del Mar in a Bowlus sailplane on February 24, 1930. Sandwiches, snacks, and drinks can be purchased from the Cliff Hanger Cafe.
Visit the Torrey Pines Gliderport at 2800 Torrey Pines Scenic Drive in La Jolla, California. For more information, call (858) 452-9858 or visit their website at www.flytorrey.com.
