This summer, Denzel Washington is a man on fire for justice once more as Robert McCall in “The Equalizer 2”. But Denzel won’t be the only black hero who is available for hire, as Mike Colter gets ready to step into the arena for season two of Marvel’s “Luke Cage”, the original hero-for-hire.
The new season finds the righteous ex-con Luke being fully vindicated and exonerated as the defender of Harlem. As the trailer shows, Power Man is being hailed as a black Jesus to several people in the neighborhood: a shining symbol of hope, just like DC’s “Black Lightning” (Cress Williams) from the CW. Despite his bulletproof and unbreakable skin, Luke Cage may have met his match in Bushmaster, whose arrival may cause people to cast their doubts about Luke’s ability to defend them. Not only that, Mariah Dillard (Alfre Woodard) and Shades (Theo Rossi) are up to their old tricks this season, as the former plans to reign supreme as the queen of Harlem.
Still, Luke’s not gonna lay in the cut, as he’s got Misty Knight (Simone Missick) and her bionic arm, and Claire Temple/Night Nurse (Rosario Dawson) in his corner to back him up in the continuing good fight against crime, corruption, politics and injustice.
The new season will have Finn Jones stopping by as Danny Rand/Iron Fist – aka the kid with the glowing fist -, which could speculate this could lead to the beginning of the streetwise Luke and the billionaire Danny setting up shop as Heroes For Hire. In the comics, Heroes For Hire is the name of the titular business Luke and Danny are in: offering their superhero services to people can afford them.
Season two of Marvel’s “Luke Cage” premieres June 22 on Netflix.
