LA AUTO SHOW: Lincoln takes the wraps off its 2020 Aviator luxury SUV

The 2020 Lincoln Aviator is introduced to the worldwide media at the LA Auto Show.

LOS ANGELES  — Ford’s luxury brand, Lincoln, debuted the 2020 Aviator luxury SUV at the 2018 Los Angeles Auto Show on Wednesday. It also showed off a Grand Touring model which features a gas and electric hybrid powertrain.

Motley Fool called the new Aviator a “big deal” and Maxim magazine described it as a “luxury powerhouse.”

The 2020 Aviator is equipped with a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 engine, paired with a 10-speed SelectShift® automatic transmission, that is expected to create 400 horsepower and 400 lb.-ft. of torque. Meanwhile, the Grand Touring Aviator hybrid will produce 450 horsepower and a massive 600 lb.-ft. of torque. It is expected to drive for 31 miles on electric power alone before the gas engine kicks on.

Honey, where are the keys? Don’t worry…because the Aviator comes with an advanced new technology called Phone As A Key. It allows the driver to open the doors and drive off by using their smartphone alone even if your keys are lost.

“It is the perfect fusion of elegance and power,” said Joy Falotico, group Vice President of the Lincoln Motor Company. “The Aviator’s timing is impeccable. More and more luxury customers are moving to utilities as Aviator enters the largest premium segment in the U.S. They are ready to elevate, are young, they have families and they want that third row. Don’t ask them to sacrifice on style, sophistication or performance. Their vehicle signals that they have arrived. Aviator looks like it’s ready to take flight.”

On the inside, the Aviator comes with an 12.3-inch standard configurable LCD instrument cluster. Other interior features include an available Revel™ Ultima™ 3D Audio System, a wireless phone charging pad, Perfect Position seats with Active Motion offer 30-way adjustability, massage capability and additional lumbar support and a standard Wi-Fi hotspot keep occupants connected.

Advanced safety features on the new luxury SUV include: Adaptive Suspension with Road Preview, Traffic Jam Assist, Evasive Steer Assist, Reverse Brake Assist and Active Park Assist Plus.

The 2020 Lincoln Aviator will be sold around the world. That includes the highest volume segment in the U.S., the midsize luxury market, and the third-highest volume segment in China.
