Superhero Sunday: The CW orders “Superman & Lois” to series

"Superman and Lois" was given the green light to become a series on The CW.

It’s official: Superman & Lois will return to the CW, as the network has given the project a straight-to-series order for next season.  Tyler Hoechlin and Elizabeth Tulloch will reprise the roles of the world’s greatest superhero and comic books’ most famous journalist, with the series focusing on them juggling their careers and raising their family in our world today.  Hoechlin has been playing the Man of Steel in a recurring capacity on Supergirl since season two, while Tulloch made her debut as Lois Lane in last season’s “Elseworlds” crossover event.  Hoechlin and Tulloch recently appeared in the five-part “Crisis on Infinite Earths” event, which concluded Tuesday.

Superman & Lois will mark the supercouple’s first time headlining a series since Dean Cain and Teri Hatcher as Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, which aired on ABC from 1993 to 1997.  Cain and Hatcher also had recurring roles on Supergirl with Melissa Benoist as Superman’s cousin Kara (Zor-El) Danvers, the Paragon of “Hope, Help and Compassion for All” in the fight for truth and justice.
