Detroit — Out of a total of 9 nominated models amongst three categories, Ford came away with two wins at the 2022 North American Car, Truck and Utiliy Vehicle of the Year (NACTOY) Awards.

The first of the two awards (North American Truck of the Year) went to the 2022 Ford Maverick, which, according to juror Matt DeLorenzo, “redefines the truck market with its low price, compact dimensions, and hybrid powertrain.” It was nominated alongside the 2022 Rivian R1T and 2022 Hyundai Santa Cruz.

Following up that win, the North American Utility Vehicle of the Year award was won by the 2022 Ford Bronco, which juror Gary Witzenburg describes as performing “at least as well off-road and is far more comfortable and civilized on the pavement where most of them will spend the vast majority of their time.” Also in the category were the 2022 Hyundai IONIQ 5 and 2022 Genesis GV70.

The opening award at the ceremony (North American Car of the Year) was won by the 2022 Honda Civic over the 2022 Lucid Air and 2022 Volkswagen Golf. As Chris Paukert put it: “From its thoughtfully improved interior to its smarter tech, the Civic is all the car that most people need, yet its appeal stretches far beyond its value equation.”

The NACTOY awards are judged by 50 automotive journalists in a variety of print, online, radio and television media outlets in the United States and Canada.
