Plymouth, Mich. — The SEMA Garage-Detroit grand opening was held Thursday, August 18, 2022. The new 45,000 square foot building is located on Jib Road in Plymouth, Mich. This is a facility where they utilize aftermarket parts companies and develop technology and test equipment.
It features a research and development center, technology labs, emission and testing labs which allows for more cutting edge products to hit the market for its customers. Detroit, Michigan is lucky to be chosen for this location as it is the epicenter of the American automobile industry.
SEMA CEO, Chris Kersting, mentioned that sixteen months ago, we bought this building. “There are 21 people on the SEMA Garage team. And, there are two shifts to keep up with Product Development,” says Kersting. He also mentioned that Jack Roush was in attendance, and announced that he was chosen the 2022 SEMA Hall of Fame inductee.
U.S. Rep. Debbie Dingell, was also in attendance and said, “We like to keep this technology and innovation in Michigan. Lots of work needs to be done and it is really exciting to have people see the cars and see the technology.”
There was also a ribbon cutting ceremony that followed. Every 15 minutes there were guided tours of the facility for those interested. Ben Kaminski, General Manager of SEMA Garage-Detroit was the emcee for the evening.
